Specialist software provider Encom has launched the latest upgrade to its software suite for exploration data visualisation. Encom PA 8.0 allows users to interactively share data, models and ideas. New features include a vector series data object to display vector and tensor data in 2D and 3D graphs and maps, a Drillhole Creator utility for creating a drillhole database and selectable Line and Point series for more accurately positioned objects.

Leica Geosystems has released the Leica DX10 Field Controller, its first robust site PDA. Designed specifically for use on construction sites, it meets military standards for vibration, shock and temperature extremes and comes with an IP67 rating against water, humidity, sand and dust. It comes with standard Bluetooth optional wireless and a high-contrast, touch-screen, colour display.

Pitney Bowes Business Insight has released MapInfo Professional 9.5. The company says it offers improved data creation and editing, and increased interoperability. Other features include easier file sharing and greater database and programming language support. It is the latest version of the company’s flagship application for business mapping and analysis. It will be available at the end of June.

AutoCAD Plug-in

Erdas has released an ECW and JPEG 2000 plug-in for AutoCAD 2007/2008/2009. This updated plug-in enables AutoCAD desktop products to read ECWP image streams. Through ECWP streaming provided by Erdas’ Image Web Server, users will be able to access massive amounts of geospatial image data (terabytes). IWS is a high-speed, specialised server built for this purpose.

Uismedia has released MapViewSVG 7, an extension for ESRI ArcGIS Desktop. MapViewSVG is used to publish ArcMap projects on internet/intranet, CD or DVD. Version 7 allows users to link file-based and database data to geometric data, and add diagrams to maps. The company also says that the improved intuitive wizard handling offers more layout possibilities.

Leica FieldPro 2.1

Leica Geosystems has relaunched version 2.1 of its fieldPro software. The company says it features several functionality improvements and a new interface between CADWorx fieldPipe and Leica CloudWorx for AutoCAD. Leica fieldPro is a plug-in for AutoCAD and Autodesk products. Existing Leica fieldPro v2.0 users can download version 2.1 from the Leica Geosystems website.

ESRI ArcPad 7.1.1

The latest versions of ESRI’s mobile GIS software, ArcPad, are now out. ArcPad 7.1.1 and ArcPad Application Builder 7.1.1 includes a StreetMap Desktop Data Extractor utility. This allows users to download data from the StreetMap Premium Tele Atlas North American dataset to a desktop PC or mobile device operating ArcPad in the field.

Geospatial Experts has developed an integrated magnetic compass/GPS receiver module for the Ricoh 500SE digital camera. The compass allows the camera to record the direction it is pointing taking a photo. GPS-Photo Link software can then display this data on a map. The software can also portray the field of view of each photo as a triangle on the map layer.

New Navman Modules

Navman Wireless has released two GPS receiver modules, the Jupiter 31 and the Jupiter 130. Both are based on the SiRFStarIII chipset. The products are aimed at original equipment manufacturers who can use the boards to build their own units with some sort of GPS-aided function. The Jupiter 31 is tailored to low-signal areas. The 130 has an on-board 20-channel GPS receiver.

Leica Geosystems and UK company Soilessentials have released the No Drift MojoRTK auto-steer system to farmers in the UK. It provides repeatable 5 cm RTK accuracy with 99 per cent reliability, says Leica. When combined with Leica Virtual Wrench, technicians will be able to view the farmer’s console screens and settings and adjust settings remotely.
