DigitalGlobe's WorldView-2 imagery will be made available to users as of 4 January.
The satellite was launched on 8 October. DigitalGlobe produced its first set of images within eleven days of launch. However, it has taken until now to fully commission the sensor.
Although some imagery will result from special tasking by customers, most imagery will be collected without orders, and placed directly in DigitalGlobe's online archive, ImageLibrary.
ImageLibrary already holds a large amount of data from earlier missions, QuickBird and WorldView-1.
WorldView-2 will acquire more data, faster, than either of the older satellites, so it is expected that WV-2 imagery will quickly come to dominate the library.
Resolution, at around half a metre, will be broadly the same as in previous missions. However, it has more spectral bands than the older satellites, which will make certain tasks a bit easier.
