Topcon Positioning Systems has entered the telematics marketplace, forming a new joint venture company with Italian-based telematics solution provider Divitech SpA. The new telematics business unit, Tierra, is headed by senior vice president Mark Bittner.
Bittner says his team has hit the ground running.
‘Within the first 60 days of operation, Topcon Positioning Systems had mobile control and monitoring equipment installed and operating with at five test sites in the US and Europe,’ he said.
Tierra has released Topcon Tierra, a new telematics solution targeted to the construction and agriculture markets. It allows individual items of equipment to communicate with each other, as well as with job site offices and company headquarters via the internet.
Its main features include an open-structure database with both import and export functionality, automatic back-up amd mapping availability including Google maps engine, customer shape file and points of interest.
The machine function offers real time data localisation, fleet management information, individual machine status, machine location information, and text messaging between machines or from a machine to other locations. The reporting platform includes path run, engine-on time, fuel consumption, telemetry status and productivity. It can also compare vehicle and operator performance.
