NovAtel Inc. and Brilliant Telecommunications Inc. have inked an agreement under which the two companies will develop new timing, synchronisation and positioning solutions.

NovAtel is a Canadian manufacturer of GNSS technologies. Brilliant is a US-based telecommunications company.

The companies say they intend to undertake joint development activities that will combine their respective technologies to create new products that target high precision timing and synchronisation applications.

GNSS technology is a key element in designing modern communications networks. These so-called asynchronous services rely on external timing signals so that the transmit and receiving elements of a communications circuit can keep in sync. Brilliant has specialised in developing synchroisation solutions that can improve the performance of existing networks by improving the accuracy of their synchronisation. This implies that the telco can improve its performance by replacing only a small part of its infrastructure, rather than replacing the whole system.
