GeoGeny for Disaster Response

Wednesday 11 Jun 2008

GeoGeny Asia used the Location Asia conference in Kuala Lumpur today (11 June) to release its new product. It has been developed for disaster management and emergency response preparedness in Asia. Called GeoGeny, it was developed by Thales in Switzerland and GeoGeny Asia.

The product is designed to use any available means of electronic communications (GSM phones, radio links) and establish a common operating picture of a disaster, available in real time to all levels of command.

Essentially, it takes Thales' experience in Europe, where it has developed an emergency reponse command and control system for the Swiss Police, and has changed it for use in Asia.

The key to the product is that it can take information held by user agencies, develop this common picture, and make the combined picture available to the people who need to use it.

In order to integrate the flow of information, the GeoGeny system has dedicated modular components which allow reception of data from mobile resources or sensors –cameras or RFIDs, for instance -- in the form of alarms with geographic references.
