GeoEye-1 Launch Date Fixed

Thursday 15 May 2008

GeoEye Inc. says the Geoeye-1 satellite will be launched 22 August. The announcement follows the signing of an agreement between GeoEye and Boeing Launch Services.

The satellite is currently in Arizona with General Dynamics Advanced Information Systems. GD is the prime contractor and integrator for the satellite bus and telescope.

The satellite will be shipped in early July to Vandenberg Air Force Base to be mated with a Delta II launch vehicle.

Geoeye-1 is the first commercial satellite to promise sub-metre pixels. It will improve on current generation commercial offerings, noteably GeoEye's own Ikonos-1 and Digitalglobe's Worldview and Quickbird satellites.
