Infoterra and Insurance

Friday 09 May 2008

Infoterra Ltd in the UK, a satellite data owner and operator, has launched a ‘managed service solution’ to enhance business decision support for the insurance industry.

Underwriters and loss adjusters will be able to combine their property portfolios with a range of geospatial information and datasets on various hazards.

This will enable them to gain risk intelligence at an individual property level and have a comprehensive geographical view of risk exposure in a given area.

By integrating data on, for example, flood incidence, subsidence and crime statistics with addressing, mapping, aerial photography and height information, Infoterra will provide insurers with a geographic context to risk rating.

Queries from insurance companies will be delivered via a standard Web browser. Interface and business rules can be customised to generate a tailored solution without the cost and timescale associated with a bespoke development.

Clients will, for example, be able to find out whether a given property may be subject to flooding or subsidence. Insurers may also opt to obtain a regular analysis of their complete book.
