Taiwan and Australia Prepare for ESNC

Wednesday 07 May 2008

Taiwanese and Australian researchers are gearing up for participation in the European Satellite Navigation Competition, which recognises outstanding applications in the field of satellite navigation. This is the first time either country has entered.

Now in its fifth year, the ESNC is designed to find ideas for commercially viable applications and products that use satellite navigation technology. It expects to combine the satellite navigation application service industries with Galileo, the European satellite navigation system.

Special prizes, sponsored by industrial and research organisations seeking innovative solutions in various fields related to satellite navigation, will be awarded as part of the contest.

This year, the European GNSS Supervisory Authority, the European Space Agency, Taiwan’s Industrial Technology Research Institute and German companies DHL Innovation Centre and T-Systems, are offering special topic prizes. Not all regions are eligible to compete for special topic prizes.

The prizes for the grand prize winner – the Galileo Master – the regional winners and the special topic winners will be awarded on 21 October 2008. Winners will present their ideas and applications to the ICT industry at this year's Systems trade show (Munich, 21-24 October).

The Taiwan Challenge is being organised by Industrial Technology Research Institute. The Australian Challenge is being organised by the queensland Department of Natural Resources and Water.

Entries close 31 July 2008.
