Kannad in France has introduced what it calls a personal location beacon. A PLB is a device that can be used to summon rescue authorities in extreme situations.
The Kannad 406 XS-3 weighs 295 grams and fits into the palm of your hand. It is waterproof to 10 metres and is made of moulded shock resistant plastic. It will lie flat on the gound and has no edges so will not protrude into your body when carried.
The device has a battery life of six years. When activated, the beacon will inform emergency services of its GPS position, the name of the registered user and the details of a contact person at home or at work. The user’s name and relevant contacts are recorded when the beacon is purchased.
It will broadcast for 24 hours continuously.
