RI Maps Forests with Satellite Images

Indonesia is intensifying efforts to map forest areas nationwide using remote-sensing satellite technology, to maximize on their role in absorbing greenhouse gas emissions, a seminar has heard. International Force Tracking Due for Upgrade in Southwest Asia

Multinational operational commands in Afghanistan and the NATO Consultation, Command and Control Agency (NC3A) are shaping their requirements to upgrade the International Force Tracking System (IFTS). Although not finalized, one new requirement calls for a system capacity increase of at least 500 percent. Accomplishing this task will involve configuration and software changes and will likely include replacing certain components to facilitate capacity growth.

RapidEye Images China Ahead of Schedule

RapidEye has delivered imagery to China's Ministry of Land and Resources (MLR) to meet an ambitious contract. MLR asked for the delivery of 7.8 Million square miles of the country with less than 10 percent cloud cover within six months. The contract, administered by RapidEye's chinese partner Beijing Earth Observation, has been completed ahead of schedule.

Dubai will orbit a second Earth observation satellite in the second half of 2012. Plans to develop two more satellites are also on the cards, according to a report in Maktoob Business. The new satellite is called DubaiSat-2. If a further two are also approved, they will be called DubaiSat-3A and DubaiSat-3B.

India Plans Launch of Dedicated Forestry Satellite

The Union Minister for Environment and Forest announced that the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) plans to launch a dedicated forestry satellite in 2013. The announcement came at the inauguration of the Indian Climate Observatory Network (ICON) at the National Atmospheric Research Laboratory (NARL) campus. Mr. Ramesh called the satellite a major afforestation initiative and a key player in tackling climate change issues.
