The third 3D-Arch workshop on 3D Virtual Reconstruction and Visualisation of Complex Architectures will be held in Italy, 25-28 February 2009. Topics for the workshop include image and range-based 3D modelling of complex sites and architectures. It will also cover data registration and integration, and automated modelling techniques.

SKE Maps for Tele Atlas

Digital map provider SK Energy has agreed to license its maps of South Korea for distribution to Tele Atlas. SKE will monitor the South Korean road network for changes, and provide regular updates to Tele Atlas. It will also become a value-added partner and reseller of Tele Atlas products.

The ScanEx Research and Development Center is releasing ScanMagic 2.6. Version 2.6 includes several new features, including in-built RS data cataloging tools and data batch processing. It also offers integrated access to external 2D and 3D map services such as Google Maps and Microsoft Virtual Earth. It supports more than 70 GIS and RS data formats.

G/Technology Version 9.4.2

Intergraph has released the latest version of G/Technology, its utility infrastructure management software. Version 9.4.2 features expanded CAD export capabilities, updated viewer architecture, and extended scalability and performance for 64-bit hardware. The new release fully supports Microsoft Vista and Windows XP. It also enables direct export to AutoCAD format from Designer, NetViewer, and MobileViewer clients.

Natural Disaster Management Conference

The deadline for abstracts for the 2009 conference on Earth Observation for Global Change has been extended to 31 December. This is the second conference in the series. It is sponsored by IAG, ISPRS, Technische Universitat Munchen and Canada’s University of Waterloo. The conference will be held in Chengdu, China, 25-29 May.

A senior bureaucrat in the Brunei government says his nation's e-government initiatives, which include many spatially-enabled systems, are over-ambitious. Pg Dato Paduka Haji Ismail bin Pg I fall Mohamed, the government chief information officer, told over 200 participants at the Thinkbig National Technology Forum, that while the country has made great strides in the development and implementation of e-government, their implementation has been inadequate.

Designed for use on mobile devices, Urban Maps includes specific features aimed at people on foot, such as details of pedestrian-only thoroughfares. Optech has appointed Tokyo-based OPT Technologies as a distributor of its ALTM airborne laser terrain mapper line of products in Japan. Optech manufactures laser scanner survey instruments. For the past year, it has been represented by OPT for its ILRIS-3D line of terrestrial scanners.

For the first time, the International Cartography Association will hold its annual conference in South America. Santiago, Chile is hosting the 24th International Cartography Conference in November 2009. Coincidentally, 2009 will also see Chile celebrate 200 years of independence. GeoEye Earnings Down by Millions

GeoEye has announced its earnings for the third quarter of the US fiscal year. Its revenues for the quarter were US$35.9 million, compared with US$ 53.8 million for the same period last year. The company blames the Pentagon, which has been buying imagery from DigitalGlobe.
