Singapore-based Credent Technology has established a research and development centre. The R&D venture will operate as Credent Advanced Technology Sdn Bhd. It will be located in Malaysia's multimedia super corridor.

'Credent Advanced Technology will be our research and development host for geospatial applications. It will work as an incubator supporting our new ventures', said Bill Love, chief executive of Credent.

The new centre will focus on location-based business services through the development of the company's flagship software Omni, and on applications for public safety and security.

Love said Credent is also looking into new applications for its airborne data collection techniques.

He said that research for the Omni range of products will focus on wireless technology 'to accommodate difficult applications such as tracking assets that move between outdoor and indoor locations'.

The company sees the launch of Credent Advanced Technologies is a significant step. It was once best known as the local distributor of Intergraph technology.

Lately is has expended considerable effort on the Omni product and other advanced location concepts.
