Map Servers are providing useful geospatial geomatics data worldwide. These servers have several advantages due to the fact that they combine all kinds of spatial data - including surveying data. Today surveyors are using a wide range of technologies ranging from total stations to lidar to image analysis technologies, and all of this electronic data is integrated into GIS servers for use locally, regionally and globally.
The East Sea is bounded by Vietnam, China, the Philippines, Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Thailand, Cambodia and Singapore. The sea is the second busiest sea route in the world after the Mediterranean Sea. As Asian economy's continue to grow, the importance of shipping across the East Sea will continue to expand. This is leading to the need for improved emergency services, tracking capabilities across the region and capacity building for many careers associated with maritime and coastal environments.
The Russian GLONASS navigation satellite constellation has high-level politcal and monetary support, with 4.7 billion dollars invested over the past decade. Russia is on pace to accelerate GLONASS satellite launches for full global coverage capacity by the end of the year, with six new satellites planned by the end of this year, according to Roscosmos Deputy head Anatoly Shilov who spoke at a Moscow satellite communications conference this week.
Jack Dangermond, founder and president of Esri, addressed the start of the company with the audience at the Esri Forestry GIS Solutions Conference this week. Many of the company’s first customers were in the forestry industry. At the company's first user conference of 12 attendees, the organization moved beyond simply selling software to build and support user requirements.
Generating an accurate 3D model of the earth's surface with lidar has many advantages over imagery, given that it's a move toward modeling as opposed to just a photo. There is a great deal of information here with three main deliverables that include a digital surface model (DSM), a bare earth or digital terrain model (DTM), and the lidar intensity image.
Vector1 Media publishes Sensors & Systems (www.sensysmag.com), Informed Infrastructure (www.informedinfrastructure.com) and Asian Surveying & Mapping (ASM). Each of these publications deal with the application of sensing and modeling for different scales of geography. Sensors & Systems explores global change, Informed Infrastructure examines smart city applications and technology, and ASM covers geospatial technology application in Asia-Pacific.
