This week marks an interational awareness campaign for the ongoing destruction of land mines and unexploded bombs. Southeas Asia is particularly plagued by these destructive remains from war that often kill or maim chldren or impoverished villagers, despite ongoing efforts to curtail the impact. Of the 10 members of ASEAN, unexplored ordnance remain a major issue for Burma, Thailand, Cambodia, Laos, Vietnam and the Philippines.Now there is call for a regional initiative to deal with this issue.
The Australian National Water Commission commissioned the mapping fo Groundwater Dependent Ecosystems (GDE) as part of the country's Water for the Future Plan. The aim was to aid policy makers for better water planning and natural resource management with environmental impacts in mind. The project was led by Sinclair Knight Merz (SKM) along with CSIRO and Cogha, and was launched in July of 2012.
