FCU’s Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Research Center has successfully applied Google Earth Enterprise cloud technology to the completion of Taiwan’s first municipal works cloud-based map platform. This project was commissioned by the Taichung City Government. With the completion of this platform, Taichung City government employees can access their own private “Earth” to search and browse city government map layers in 3-D. In the future, city government employees will also be able to produce 3-D models of major construction projects.
Currently, this platform contains records pertaining to the city’s major construction projects and tender projects, as well as detailed information regarding the progress of each project. In addition, this platform integrates the city’s digital map libraries including urban planning and cadastral map libraries. At the same time, Google historical image browsing technology is applied in conjunction with aerial photos of Taichung City taken at various time periods. This allows city government officials and policymakers to have a clear picture of the city’s development and changes in land use over time.
The information on this platform will gradually be made available to the general public to allow them to participate in and understand the city’s development objectives and progress. At the same time, cloud-based service platforms in the areas of transportation, disaster preparedness, land administration, tourism, public safety and health care will be developed. Read More
