The Survey of India is undertaking the surveying of the country's entire 7,500 km coastline. The hazard mapping effort will identify low-lying areas affected by high tides and coastal erosion, and rising sea levels.

The Integrated Coastal Zone Management (ICZMP) project is estimated to cost Rs. 125 crore (approx. $2.5 million), and will take the next five years to complete. The project will generate a 0.5 meter elevation contour map on 1:10,000 scale up to a maximum width of 7 km from the shore line.

The project is being implemented by the Ministry of Environment and Forests (MoEF) with assistance from the Survey of India and funding from the World BAnk. The world bank is covering 77 percent of the project.
