The Asian Forum of Parliamentarians on Population and Development was formed in 1981 with the aim of encouraging and promoting parliamentary initiatives to improve the living standard and welfare of the people of Asia. The 27th Asian Parliamentarians' Meeting on Population and Development was inaugurated by President Mahinda Rajapaksa in Colombo today.
