Australia - The Need for Speed in Rail Link

A high-speed rail line between Australia's major east coast cities must link Sydney to either Melbourne or Brisbane within three hours if it is to be viable, according to the head of French transport and electricity giant Alstom. Speaking in Melbourne yesterday, Chris Raine, Alstom's Australian chief executive, said this country had debated for far too long about the need for a fast train between its biggest cities. "We really are a long way behind," Mr Raine said.
