Russia Accelerates GLONASS Navigation Satellite Launches

The Russian GLONASS navigation satellite constellation has high-level politcal and monetary support, with 4.7 billion dollars invested over the past decade. Russia is on pace to accelerate GLONASS satellite launches for full global coverage capacity by the end of the year, with six new satellites planned by the end of this year, according to Roscosmos Deputy head Anatoly Shilov who spoke at a Moscow satellite communications conference this week.

RapidEye Announces Restructuring

RapidEye announced that it has filed for insolvency under German insolvency laws, the equivalent of Chapter 11 protection. Wolfgang Biedermann, the CEO of RapidEye commented that this move was necessitated by recent actions of the financing banks.

Laos, Cambodia Agree to Work on Border

Laos and Cambodia have agreed to discuss border issues, including surveying and addressing drug trafficking in the remote area, the state-run Vientiane Times newspaper reported Monday. The two governments agreed to more work related to border surveys and demarcation.

Melbourne Council Tests New Online Mapping System

The City of Melbourne has invited several small focus groups to test a new municipal mapping system that's currently in development.
