Mapping of slumps provides the first step toward land governance, recognizing investments, allowing for land to be used as collateral to help bring the populations out of poverty. Pending Land Swap Between India and Bangladesh May Move Forward

There is talk that a long-awaited land swap between India and Bangladesh may take place when India's prime minister Manmohan Singh visits Bangladesh later this year. The land along its northern border has been in dispute since the country's  independence from India in 1971, but the mixed borders of Cooch Behar have been muddled for much longer.

Remote Sensing for Asian Volcano Monitoring

The Korean Meteorological Association has initiated an effort to monitor volcanic activity on Mt. Baekdu on the North Korea-China border. Using the recently launched Cheollian weather satellite, the mountain will be monitored regularly through the use of satellite imagery.

DigitalGlobe has appointed Jeffrey R. Tarr as its new President and Chief Executive Officer, effective April 5, 2011. Tarr succeeds Jill Smith, who, in September 2010, announced her intention to leave the company and was both the company’s CEO and Chairman. DigitalGlobe also named current DigitalGlobe Board Member General Howell M. Estes III as its new non-executive Chairman.

China to Establish Global Satellite Navigation System by 2020

A senior space technology expert in China said the country's global satellite navigation system, which is composed of more than 30 satellites, is expected to be in place by 2020. China would launch 12 to 14 satellites during the early part of the 12th Five-Year (2011-2015) Program, said Qi Faren, former chief designer for Shenzhou spaceships.

11 World Tour Appearing in Middle East

ERDAS will team with GeoSystems Group for Information Technology in Saudi Arabia to host a series of 11 World Tour events in the Middle East. The first event will be held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia on March 7th in conjunction with the Saudi Arabian national science agency, the King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST).  On March 8th, the tour moves to Muscat, Oman with an event at the Theater Hall of Waljat College of Applied Sciences.
