Hong Kong Frets Over Proposal to Co-ordinate Urban Planning with Chinese Coastal Cities

A proposal to better integrate the cities surrounding southern China's Pearl River has stirred anxiety in Hong Kong that mainland-style urban planning may be imposed on the freewheeling, semiautonomous territory. The study proposes better transportation ties and linked hiking trails and parks among the cities surrounding the Pearl River Delta, encompassing Hong Kong, the gambling enclave of Macau and parts of Guangdong province, with a population of 25.2 million people in all.
